‘Keeping children safe in Education, DfE, 2015, defines safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children as:
‘Protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes. ‘Children’ includes every one under the age of 18’.
Safeguarding at Parkfield Primary
Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play in safeguarding children. School staff are particularly important as they are in a position to identify concerns early and provide help for children, to prevent concerns from escalating. Schools and their staff form part of the wider safeguarding system for children working with social care, the police and health services both to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We expect all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this common commitment.
- If you are concerned about the safety of any child in our school, you must report this to one of the Safeguarding Team.
- If you are concerned about the conduct of a member of staff or volunteer in our school you must contact the designated Safeguarding Lead or in their absence, a member of the Safeguarding Team.
In the holiday periods please contact [email protected] with critical safeguarding issues.

If you are in danger and unable to speak out loud then dial 999 followed with 55. This alerts the authorities that you need help!
As part of our commitment to keeping children safe, we are proud to be part of Operation Encompass.
Operation Encompass is a unique Police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people exposed to domestic abuse.
Being part of Encompass means our school will receive a notification from Greater Manchester Police before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved in or exposed to a domestic abuse incident the previous day. The information is given in confidence to the school's Key Adult and will enable us to provide the best possible support for the child.
The Key Adults at our school are Mr Kemp, Miss Steele and Mrs Howard. If you have any questions or wish to know more about our involvement in Operation Encompass, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Safe After School Campaign
The Safe After School campaign is a new campaign launched by Rochdale to support parents with advice and guidance on out of school activities.
Clubs, classes and tutorial sessions offer great ways for children and young people to develop their skills and confidence as well as having fun, but it comes as quite a shock to many parents that where they send their child to, may actually not be regulated. Even people who have committed criminal offences can legally continue to work in roles like children's entertainer or private tutor.
There have been many instances, nationally as well as locally, about inappropriate behaviour and abuse perpetrated by adults in a position of trust at an after school activity.
RMBC have launched the Safe After School campaign to help parents and carers make sure that their children will be happy and protected in after school and extra-curricular activities.
