We have a number of pupil groups at the school, which include:
- School Council The school council represent the views of children in the school, raising issues and ideas with our senior leadership team and governors. Two members of each class are voted by their class members to be a school councillor at the beginning of each year. They are also involved in planning, organising and running a variety of projects in schools, such as charity fundraising events.
- Eco Council The Eco Council's role is to help care for our environment both in school and the wider community. They are also involved in promoting and running a variety of projects linked with themes of sustainability and recycling. You can find out more information about them on their dedicated page here.
- Technology Team Our Technology Team meet on a weekly basis to learn a variety of new, exciting and advanced computing skills. They also promote the use of ICT resources to others, control the hall laptop, tweet assemblies and share their e-safety knowledge with others. You can find out more information on their dedicated page here.
- Sports Leaders The Parkfield sports leaders plan and deliver high quality sport sessions to KS1 children. With training and support from the school's 'Sports Leader' the Year 6 children deliver special sessions at dinner time. Our leaders have to produce lesson plans, think about health and safety, set up equipment, coach younger children and then review their lessons.
-
Playground Pals A number of caring and specially trained Year 5 children support on the KS1 yard at break and dinner times. Their duties include: leading playground games, supporting children play, helping create friendships and supporting when others are upset or hurt.
- Reading Ambassadors Our team of Reading Ambassadors will share their love of reading with every child at Parkfield through class discussions, assemblies and whole school displays. The Reading Ambassadors will encourage every child at Parkfield to be a life-long reader, they will be excellent role models for reading across the school and share ideas about how to improve reading at Parkfield. The Reading Ambassador team is made up of fourteen children from across Key Stage 2 who will meet once every half term with Miss Howard to discuss our priorities for reading: how we can encourage pupils, staff and parents to read more for enjoyment. The team will organise book themed events, keep shared reading areas up to date and tidy and create posters and displays.
Why do we have pupil groups?
At Parkfield we believe the children should play a key role in many aspects of the school and we are committed to the promotion and protection of children’s rights, in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. It believes that children and young people should have opportunities to express their opinion in matters that affect their lives.
Some of the benefits of involving children and young people in decision making are:
- It encourages pupils to become active participants in a democratic society - by having a school council, eco-council and community ambassadors which develop skills such as co- operation and communication and encourage them to take responsibility.
- It contributes to achievement and attainment - young people involved in participative work benefit in a range of different ways. Increased confidence, self- respect, competence and an improved sense of responsibility have all been reported by young people who contribute in school. Schools also report increased motivation and engagement with learning.
