English is taught in blocks of 2 or 3 weeks. At the end of every unit of work children complete an extended piece of writing which allows them to demonstrate what they have learnt. Grammar and punctuation are taught separately.
Each block taught focuses on a different text type. The whole school English overview can be found here.
In KS1, the different genres that children are taught include: narrative, recount, instruction, explanation, reports, persuasion and poetry.
In KS2, the genres taught are: narrative, recount, instruction, explanation, reports, persuasion, discussion and poetry.
The school sets its end of year expectations through the use of the target cards. These can be found here.
